The set of thematic papers on Rare-Element Geochemistry and Mineral Deposits originated from the MAC- and MDD-sponsored special session of the same name held at the GAC-MAC annual meeting at Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario, May 12-14, 2004. These eleven papers represent a cross-section of current research on rare elements, mostly in high-temperature magmatic environments, and deal with various aspects of rare element mineral deposit formation, the partitioning of rare elements among accessory phases in felsic igneous rocks, and experimental spectroscopic data on the molecular environment of rare elements in felsic glasses and magmas.
